September Sneak Peak

March 6, 2025

By popular demand, we are happy to announce that the 2026 calendar is now open for booking at the Missouri River Ranch! Reach out to info@missouririverranch.com to reserve your next fly fishing adventure; dates are filling up fast!

As we near the end of our monthly highlights, September deserves a spotlight. Summer temperatures trend down as fall approaches, the kids are back to school, and the river once again becomes a fisherman's paradise.

Pseudos, Callibaetis, Caddis & October Caddis will keep the dry fly angler busy as they target pockets of opportunity on the river. Dry fly fishing can be a bit more technical this time of year but provide rewarding takes by beautiful fish.

Nymphing keeps September anglers happy. Crawfish will continue to be on the menu until the first cold snap, while perdigons, rainbow warriors and weight flies pickup a number of trout.

Streamer fishing begins to heat up again, typically midway through the month. Smaller olive patterns and thin mints are usually the ticket for aggressive takes. Fish respond well to faster retrieves and skilled anglers are able to manage any residual weeds with a quick haul. The action will continue to increase as October nears.

Drop us a line, and we'll see you soon at the ranch!
