Independence day will soon be here, and the first days of July have presented great "hopper-dropper" fishing conditions. The weather is beautiful, with sunshine and highs ranging from 76-93°F over the next week. Some passing afternoon thunderstorms are possible this time of year, Flows are roughly 3,670 CFS with water temperatures out of the dam approaching 62°F.
PMDs are still around, but in smaller numbers. Tricos, Caddis and Spinners are keeping fish up during the mid-morning and late-evening windows. Our trout have been more selective this year, so being the first boat to the fish is crucial. Longer leaders and great presentations are the keys to success. Make each cast count, and practice your reach cast
!Nymphing is great from morning to early afternoon. Weight flies continue to be a popular options, as well as split case, zirdles and rainbow warriors. Weeds are starting to form on the river and are likely to stay as water levels remain low this year. Practice a hard single haul to clear the weeds and get right back into the action!
Streamer fishing is slowing down as the weather heats up, but is still an option if the conditions present themselves. Overcast afternoons, or late evenings have had fish chasing streamers.
