PMDs are showing up in force. Their arrival has charged the river and has healthy trout rising mid-morning and feeding heavily. This past week showed our anglers a lot of success on the river, with equally great evenings at the lodge.
Kettlehouse Brewing from Missoula joined us for an incredible, 5-course beer-paired dinner. Daily highs will vary from 76-83°F over the next week. Flows out of the dam are 4,500 CFS with water temperatures at 58.5°F
PMDs came early, and with them the best dry fly fishing we have seen this season. Fishing continues to be streaky, but when it is on... it is on! Late mornings to early afternoons have seen trout aggressively feeding on spinners, duns and emerges. Try to anchor up on rising fish, be patient and you will connect with some beautiful trout. Caddis are also present, but we are in the thick of the PMD hatch right now.
Nymphing is solid, with anglers running rigs short. PMD nymphs, sow bugs and wire worms continue to take trout. Please give wade anglers and dry fly anglers space this time of year to work to their rising fish. There's plenty of river for everyone to share. If nymphing is more your speed/wheelhouse, don't be surprised if you connect with a few healthy whitefish!
Streamer fishing has slowed down, but some anglers are sticking to it and still connecting with a few nice fish. Smaller patterns have been the favorite!

Drop us a line, and we'll see you soon at the ranch!
