After a few days of warm weather and smoky conditions, a drop in temperatures and steady rain fall has ushered in the beginning of fall fishing! The first few trees along the river are beginning to change color and the river is turning a corner into fall conditions. Flows are at 4,360 CFS with water temperatures coming out of the dam at 61°F. Daily highs will range from 59°F-73°F over the next week.
Dry fly fishing has a few surprises in store and anglers are taking advantage. While the Pseudo hatch is notoriously difficult to fish, some trout have been taken on October caddis patterns this week! Callibaetis patterns have also taken trout in slower pools.
Nymphing is hot right now but anglers still need to contend with some weeds. Worm patterns, midges, sow bugs and perdigons are all working. You can benefit by switching up your patterns and trying something new if the action slows down.
Streamer fishing continues to build. Thin mints are still the pattern of choice for most anglers as well as flashy fry and other small designs. Take advantage of the colder/overcast conditions and connect with some aggressive Missouri River trout!
Drop us a line, and we'll see you soon at the ranch!
