Dry Flies and Doubled up on Browns!

May 17, 2023

Fly Fishing Update:

This was a big week on the Missouri, with incredible hatches and non-stop action. A number of our skilled guests connected on wonderful dry fly and streamer fishing. The river has stabilized and we are in the midst of incredible spring fishing. From top to bottom, anglers were finding rising fish. Flows have fallen to 6,400 CFS while water temperatures have risen to 51°F.

Bug activity is peaking! Scenes of rising trout are once again common on the Missouri. A combination of water temperatures, dropping water levels, and an incredibly thick hatch continues to bring fish to the surface. BWOs, midges and even the occasional caddis are all in play.

Shallow nymphing continues to improve. As we move further into spring anglers are reaching for their short-leash rigs more-and-more. Running sow bugs, scuds or baetis nymphs a couple feet from a small foam indicator has proven quite effective.

Streamer fishing is bringing lots of fish to the boat! We've seen a number of larger streamers bringing success, but focus on patterns with a bit of flash.

Drop us a line and we hope to see you soon!
