After a wonderful holiday season, the Missouri River Ranch team is hard at work and excited to bring you all an unforgettable 2026. As we look ahead to opening our doors in April, here's a sneak peak of what you can expect to see on the river in early spring! April is one of our favorite months as the crowds are minimal and our trout eagerly feeding after a long winter. Weather can be variable, so bring layers and prepare for anything.
BWOs, Midges and March Browns will be the main course. Despite cold water and the possibility for variable weather, this is a great time of year to squeeze in quality dry fly fishing before the summer crowds. Fish are far less educated this time of year, which translates into more opportunities for success.
Anglers will have a lot of options when it comes to nymphing. Most anglers will opt for weighted sow bugs fished deep, targeting slower runs. When hatches are abundant, however, short-leasing BWO nymphs can also take some beautiful trout.
Streamer fishing will be excellent, but requires finesse. Whether swinging with two handed rods or stripping from the boat, anglers should focus on deeper & slower presentations to elicit strikes. Trout are still sluggish with colder water temps, but eager to capitalize on protein-rich prey as they ready themselves for the upcoming months.

Drop us a line, and we'll see you soon at the ranch!
