A Stunning Week of Dry Fly Fishing on the Missouri

July 4, 2024

Happy Fourth of July from the entire MRR team! The dry fly action was on fire once again. Incredible caddis and PMD hatches had large pods of fish up throughout the river. Missouri River flows are mostly stable around 4,080 CFS. Water temperatures sit at 60°F.

Starting Monday, please be mindful of summer temperatures. Craig, MT is calling for multiple days in the upper 90°'s and a few days of +100°F. Make sure to utilize hats, polarized glasses, sun hoodies, sunscreen and lots of water. Minimize fish handling/pictures and practice good trout handling techniques.

Dry fly fishing has been fantastic! CDC caddis patterns, PMD spinners and longer leaders (10'-12') were the keys to success. While we anticipate the dry fly action to continue, the incoming heat wave may have an impact.

Nymphing has been excellent for most of the day, with some large rainbows and browns brought to hand. This time of year, size up your tippet and fight fish efficiently to reduce stress as water temps rise.

Streamer fishing had bursts of activity on colder, cloudier days this week. However, it seems to have quieted down once again.

Drop us a line, and we'll see you soon at the ranch!
